The Difference Between POP3 and IMAP
When setting up your email, you may be prompted with choosing between POP3 and IMAP options. Which should you choose? Why should you choose one?
POP3:
POP3 stands for "Post Office Protocol" and can only be used on one device. POP3 stores your email locally on the device. This means your device contacts the email server, downloads your mail then the server deletes it. This is useful if you want to be the only place your emails are located (incase of sensitive information or other reasons).
IMAP:
IMAP stands for "Internet MEssaging Access Protocol" and can be used on many devices. IMAP stores your email serverside. This means your device connects to the mail server and downloads a copy of your mail. This is usefull if you wish to connect your iPhone and computer to the same email account so you are always connected.
